I am one of those who feels that the route should be published ahead of time. But you know, both the 2007 and 2008 routes are available in different web pages.
Did you take the time to train for the ride? I am sure you did. Did you take the time to study the route ahead of time to see where you were going?
I would never drive anywhere without a good sense of directions, much less ride my bike not knowing where I will be at.... Got to do your homework.

Hard to do "homework" when the route isn't posted anywhere. Believe me I looked online. All I found was that they didn't want anyone posting it from prev rides and they weren't releasing till the morning of. I am from SD & familiar with the area have been riding and training for the last 6 mos. so I had no problem physically. I was well prepared. I even emailed the club to ask where route goes after Torrey and my email got returned.

In 2007, I rode my fixed gear towing my 7 year old daughter on a hitchhiker and turned on the road before gilman. I ended up down by La Jolla cove. I continued on and joined back up at Mission Bay via PCH. This year my wife nearly got plowed over by a lifted truck with a trailer that did not want to stop at Nimitz. BAD intersections without green arrows.

It is unfortunate that some of the riders missed the gilman dr ramp. Not sure what part of the route slip you were looking at or if you were looking at the road. The intersection of N. Torrey Pines Rd & Torrey Pines Rd had an orange arrow pointing straight. There were also orange arrows at the beginning of the down hill ramp pointing right. The route slip also has leg mileage & total mileage indicating how far you should ride before the next turn.

If any riders have suggestions on how to improve the markings in that area, please advise. We are always looking for improvements to make the course safer and easier to follow.

Ok Lee, Count how many trouble spots there are. Have your
fast riders who have extra time spend an hour or two at the trouble spots showing the rest where to turn. At my age, I
don't care if I do 40 miles or 100, I'm just glad I wake up in
the morning. I would volunteer to help out, you know work
two hour shifts. When I ride by myself and I come to a dangerous intersection, I use the crosswalks like pedestrians.

I agree with Jim, I found previous year routes on the internet and I would get on the metrolink, ride to Oceanside and ride to San Diego. Soon, I'm going to get on the Metrolink, ride to Oceanside, take Carmel Valley Rd to Sorrento Valley Rd to Mira Mesa Blvd to Camino Santa Fe to Miramar Blvd to Nobel Dr to Villa La Jolla Dr. to Gilman Dr. to the bike path. What the heck, I like getting lost.
