i was told by the ride organizers that they will post a detailed route week of the ride, after Labor day. I have the Garmin GPS and want to load the route as well.

I was hoping they would have released the map early. But still don't see it on the site. When released who want's to convert to a file so it can be uploaded to a Garmin GPS devise? I've never done it before but will give it a try and share it if I can figure it out.

See tourofcalifornia.org/2007/09/amtrak-century.html and follow the Google Maps link.

Hope this helps.

I assume that you would provide a detailed map one week before the ride. Please do so.................

Bernd - Thanks for the link. I was hoping for something official, just in case the route has been changed or modified from the '07 route. I was told the route does changes slightly so I'm hoping to get the official '08 route map soon. Admittedly, I'm a bit surprised they don't post this information on the website. Most rides make this available and I find it a bit odd that that they don't, but as soon as I get a confirmed official '08 route I will share it.

About a month ago I rode the initial 20 - 25 miles of the 2007 route as a tune-up for this weekend's ride; the only significant thing I noticed then was that there was heavy construction going on on Jeffrey Rd and I had to detour on Trabuco Rd then to Yale Ave before getting on Irvine Blvd.

Again, this was atleast 4 weeks ago so the construction work have been completed since but at the time it looked like pretty heavy work they were doing.
Just FYI.

Thanks Hank for the info. This is exactly why it would be very helpful to have the route available. Is it really too much to ask for a official route to be made available? Hopefully it will come soon so us bike geeks can update our GPS unites with the accurate route.

Well, it looks like we won't get a detailed 2008 route map before tomorrow. Disappointing.

As one of the volunteers that rides the pre-amtrak to check and finalize the route the week before, we have posted the garmin data in the past. If the interest is that high for all the bikes geeks I will inquire to the rest of the staff of ressurecting this for future rides.

Mike - Thanks for the note. It would have been very helpful to have a detailed route map posted before the event. Even for some riders that don't use GPS devices probably would like to see the route before hand. It helps lesson the confusing that comes with riding, especially in unfamiliar areas. Thanks for taking the time to read the thread.

Concur with Joel. And would like to add that distributing the route slip before the ride would allow us to make multiple copies and have a spare in case we lose one. I know of at least 1 person that lost her route slip. I didn't loose mine but have lost it on some of the saturday morning OCW rides.

Many thanks to the ride organizers and volunteers for putting on such a great century. This was my first and plan on making this a yearly ordeal.

Hi Steve
We do have extra route slips at all the rest stops, Just need to ask.
