The Moonlight Magic was my second group, first century (my longest ride ever) and first night ride. What an inauguration! From the 100 mile distance, chilly weather, and the winds, I must say that this was truly a limit pushing ride for me. It's another first for me to pedal uphill both ways (sometimes those winds were like sandblasters, especially on the Owens detour)! Completing it was most satisfying.
Throughout the ride, the one thing that sticks in my mind is how friendly everyone was, no matter the wind and cold. The checkpoints were like an oasis in the desert - no, wait, they were!
I would like to know how many finished the full century and thoughts on how hard/easy it was compared to other century rides? With my inexperience, I have no way of telling if I did good or if I need a lot more training before I attempt another century ride.

oh yeah! hi guys, my names bill meadows and i'm one of the stubborn knuckleheads who did the full 100. the wind coming back from olancha was, "interesting". i was in the same boat the last 35 miles, happy to go around 12 or 14 mph. i pulled in to lone pine around one am, watched a bit of field of dreams with debbie and byron(the dude manning CP#1,3,and 4), got something to eat at the cafe next door and headed home to LA. pulled into my driveway at 0615am, ugh. ill be back for the next one in the spring 100%!

Rean - You did fantastic! I have done many, many century rides and this one ranked up at the top...The climbing wasn't as difficult and it wasn't hot by any means, but the wind and weather was horrific...I only averaged 13.3 over the entire course, while usually I average 17- 19 mph on a century. The Solvang century I averaged 18mph this year....so this one really demolished me! I'm still glad I did the 75 miler but my hat is off to those that did the century!...That cafe food sure did taste good after the long haul - glad it is open 24 hrs/day...we'll be back in may to complete the Century!
